  1. Hi! I found you from Gymbofriends....and I was wondering if you have ever tried selling to ThreUp? I placed a Gymbo order recently and received one of their clean out bags. It is full now but I am still skeptical from lack of experience. I also really liked your post about buying gift cards at a discounted price and then using it with a good sale and coupon. I had never thought about purchasing a card in advance for cheap.

  2. Hi! I'm so glad you checked this out. Discount gift cards are one of my fave tricks for saving $$. Careful not to buy Gymbo ones...they're almost always merch credit and not valid for earning or redeeming GB. If they are an even # like $50 or $100 they are usually a true gift card (I did find one once and got an extra 21% off my Gymbo order).

thredUP...yes, I have tried selling and I plan to write about it soon. The payout really correlates to your effort. The effort it takes to put something in a prepaid bag instead of listing on eBay, BST, or prepping for a consignment is truly minimal and typically the payout is equivalent to the effort. I've heard lots of positive things from folks who just don't have the time or desire to do the other things and lots of negatives from people who do list or consign. The biggest concern (and this bothered me too) is that you don't get any kind of acknowledgement about the items that are rejected. They seem to disappear into a blackhole and if they were NWT, you're going to be wondering why. There is just never a listing of everything they received and why it was rejected. They do have a new system where you can pay $9.99 and they will return any items they don't take. I think that would be very worthwhile.

In general for Gymbo, I think sending in dresses, sweaters, coats, etc. is worthwhile. Typical payout for a dress is $3.99. Smaller sizes are worth less (everyone has way too many baby clothes). On the other hand a t-shirt might bring in $0.50 which doesn't feel good.

I have been more pleased with the women's items I've sent in. There is another organization that does a similar business model, but only women's clothes. I'm testing them out right now too and will write about both when I have a good feel for it.

  3. Cool I can't wait to read those posts. Thank you for the heads up on the Gymbo cards. I have never had merchandise credit so I did not know how it worked. Hopefully I find some good ones!

  4. You're welcome...I got burnt on that one. The website I bought it from took it back for a refund though. Most merch credits aren't restrictive.

Please take a moment to like/share any posts and like/share my FB page. I started this blog to share what I learned while in survival mode through the economy, but I'd like word to spread to people who find it useful.

  6. Great I will check out your FB Page too, I set up an account a few weeks ago with thred up but I have not placed an order yet. I sent in my bag a few days ago. I was wondering what are your favorite online discount gift card websites? I was just on gymbofriends and sa your post about finding a gift card for 88 bucks...that is awesome! I also have a blog, it is mostly about product reviews and point earning sites like Swagbucks.
